This is a must read!

I responded to a comment that jenb made in regards to one of my comments on her fabulous blog about her food journal   and realized that it should be a blog in and of itself!  Do you ever feel bombarded by the endless amount of contradicting info when it comes to nutrition?  I think that it can be just as touchy of a subject as politics or religion sometimes!  Below is my comment to jenb with a few extra thoughts:

I am delighted to offer suggestions and share my favorite foods with all of you!   There are soooo many options out there and almost too much information. Get ready for a run-on sentence!!! One minute there is the low-carb craze, then the raw food craze, then the weighing your food fad, then the don't-combine-your-proteins-with-carbs theory, then the "all sugar is evil" (even fruit) idea, then we are told that too much protein can hurt the kidneys so then the idea is to go vegan or vegetarian, but then we are reminded of the importance of Omega-3s and -6s so we consider going down the path of pesca-vegetarian, or you could be a lacto-ovo vegetarian, or maybe just a lacto vegetarian, or you could try the red-meat-and-no-carbs-at-all thing, or the no-fat-at-all thing, then there is the Acai Berry diet, or the low calorie/no exercise at all plan, then after the holiday shenanigans people do that CRAZY Master Cleanse, then we are told that any food or liquid in a plastic container is toxic, and then...

Aaaaagghhh! What are you going to believe in religiously? All diets are fads for a reason. THEY DON'T WORK FOREVER!! That's why people are always looking for the latest diet. My theory? Keep things simple and try new kinds of food to find what works best for YOUR body. We are all different!!! Have a little bit of everything and don't deprive yourself! I have found that depriving myself only leads to an inevitable binge, which then leads to regret. I eat dark chocolate EVERYDAY! I eat low glycemic carbs EVERYDAY! I never skip meals and I eat what my body is craving. I MOVE my body everyday!  Even a long walk or always taking the stairs instead of the elevator count!

It's important to listen to the body and know when to stop or go for it. If I eat more snacks or dessert in a given day than I normally do, I call it a cheat day and do extra sprints on the treadmill the following day. Finding balance is the most challenging thing for the human race, but there are simple modifications we can all make in our life to make living a more fruitful and enjoyable experience instead of constantly trying to chase a certain number on the scale (a.k.a. the GUILT BOX!!!).

My two cents

I hate being anonymous, but I guess I need a blog to be a registered user, so fyi, this is from Paige.

I am a life long runner and several years ago, I heard an interview with a top marathoner who said something to the effect of, "if i listened to my body, i would sit on the couch and drink port wine and eat chocolate all day". I thought that was pretty hilarious, but I actually think that comment is not entirely true. I think those of us who love feeling good and strong and energetic and happy naturally do exactly what Jenna is talking about - we eat. We eat real, natural and good food. Sometimes we eat too much of that food or in my case, sometimes I drink too much of that wine. But, I still get up and move my body and at the end of the day even if my body isn't ready for the cover of Maxim, I FEEL good and strong and powerful and I think that is really what is Mission Possible is all about.

Amen to that

Both of these posts are words of wisdom!
